of all the animals I have studied the wedge tailed eagle would have to be the most difficult so far!
Usually I pick up a stroke pattern and use it throughout the creation process for most of my artworks eg a hair stroke pattern to give the illusion of every stroke.
But because the textures, directions and shapes change so frequently it was impossible to settle into a pattern for very long. The colours also threw me as you would think a very simple palette of browns, yellows, blues, oranges would be evident, But the changes in colour and light are also constant, the subtle patterns on each feather made for many hours and a lot of studying other images of close up details of the wedge tailed eagle feather patterns, trying to figure out how the individual strands of feather make the stripe pattern.
Happy to say I am beside myself happy with how it finished!
